Privacy

This site collects no personal data. There is no sign-up, no forms, no cookies, no analytics and no trackers, and nothing you do here is sent to any server of mine.

Your browser stores (in localStorage, on this same domain) the last forecast downloaded and your layer preferences, so requests are not repeated. This is technical storage, it identifies nobody, and clearing the site data removes it. That is why there is no consent banner.

That said, to draw the map your browser requests tiles and forecasts from third parties, and that reveals your IP address and browser type to them, as on any site with maps. Here they all are:

OpenWeather is deliberately absent from that list: its requests go through this site's server, so it receives the server's IP and not yours. Cloudflare does see it, as any host would. Transfers to the USA rely on the European Commission's adequacy framework; each provider has its own policy, linked from its site. Eye safety

Never look at the Sun without a certified solar filter except during totality itself. Binoculars and telephoto lenses without a filter cause irreversible damage within seconds.

The attributions required by licence are OpenStreetMap (ODbL), OpenTopoMap (CC-BY-SA) and Open-Meteo (CC-BY 4.0). The rest are included as a courtesy. Overpass, Nominatim and OSRM were used only while preparing the data, sparingly and non-commercially; the site no longer queries them at load time.

Licence of the data and the code

The file data/sites.json, holding the 79 places, is a database derived from OpenStreetMap: names, coordinates and categories come from there. The ODbL share-alike clause requires it to be distributed under the same licence, so it is published under ODbL 1.0, © OpenStreetMap contributors. You may copy, modify and redistribute it while keeping the attribution and the licence.

The eclipse calculations (path, contacts, durations) and the horizon profile are original work derived from public-domain ephemerides and open elevation models, not from OSM, and are not subject to the ODbL. The site's code belongs to Edgar Martin-Blas; get in touch if you would like to reuse it.

Limitations and liability

The eclipse calculations are my own, computed from the DE421 ephemerides and checked against the circumstances published by NASA. This site is not an official source.

Access to these places has not been verified on the ground. It is inferred from OpenStreetMap: there may be gates, private land or impassable tracks. The terrain model does not include buildings or trees either.

The official viewing points come from public announcements by the regional government of Castilla y León and the provincial councils. This site is not affiliated with them; confirm opening times, capacity and registration through their own channels.

A weather forecast is a forecast. The services used are free, with limited quotas, and they can fail or run out of data.

The information is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. What you do with it, including travelling and observing, is your own responsibility.
